FIRST EDITION. 8.75 x 6.25 inches. xiv + 216 + [1] pp. Main text within borders. Bound in original red cloth, gilt, with contrasting black spine title label, gilt, in price clipped pictorial dust wrapper which has sunned spine with chips at head and tail, and other edge wear. A little wear to extremities, but otherwise a very good copy. 1969 gift inscription on half title. Illustrated by frontispiece, tailpiece and by 37 figures in text. Decorated by initials. Quotations on endpapers within decorative borders. Biography of John Donne (1572-1631), clergyman and poet, by Lady Mary Clive, nee Pakenham (1907-2010). BIOGRAPHY POETRY BIOGRAPHY- LIT.
