Add to basketNear fine condition green cloth boards with a front cover gold facsimile author signature and gold spine lettering. Includes Preliminary Page List of Books by Ernest Hemingway and Note by Mary Hemingway. Illustrated with two color front and rear endpaper maps. The black rectangular block enclosing the author name on the spine shows some wear. The inner section of the blank second to last rear endpaper contains eleven inconspicuous very small neatly written numbers, difficult to notice because they are in the margin. All other pages are in fine condition and the binding is exceedingly tight and square (see photographs). "Islands in the Stream is the first of the posthumously published novels of Ernest Hemingway. The book was originally intended to revive Hemingway's reputation after the negative reviews of Across the River and Into the Trees. He began writing it in 1950 and advanced greatly through 1951. The work, rough but seemingly finished, was found by Mary Hemingway among 332 works Hemingway left behind at his death. [The book] was meant to encompass three stories to illustrate different stages in the life of its main character, Thomas Hudson. The titles in the three different parts of the novel were changed into what are now its three acts: "Bimini:, "Cuba", and At Sea". - from wikipedia dot org. "Charles Scribner, Jr. and I worked together preparing this book for publication from Ernest's original manuscript. Beyond the routine chores of correcting spelling and punctuation, we made some cuts in the manuscript, I feel [VERO BEACH BOOKS NOTE: the word "feeling" is used in the "Note", probably a misprint] that Ernest would surely have made them himself. The book is all Ernest's We have added nothing to it. Mary Hemingway" - from the Note.
