Paperback. In Whistwick, the weather is chosen by whoever wins the race. New girl Bex enters the Saturday race to draw the starting line from the inside. She wins anyway. She wasn't really trying. Her spin looks perfectly reasonable. By Sunday morning, the color has gone out of Whistwick. Not the weather. Everything else. The geraniums in the bakery window box. The painted signs and the colored doors and Milo's yellow scarf. The flower stall, the red door on Mill Street, the cheerful blue of the hat shop sign. All of it the grey of something drained rather than colored. The sky stays blue. The town still works. But Whistwick looks like a memory of itself rather than the thing itself, and that turns out to be harder to live inside than either a blizzard or a continuous thunder. Casey knows what caused it. Fixing the thunder last winter moved something nobody knew was there - a band of painted symbols around the base of the Original Wheel at Storm Peak. Sixteen symbols. Each one a color. All of them now wrong. The fix requires someone with direct, certain, unguessable knowledge of every color Whistwick has ever been. It's a good thing Bex draws everything. A funny, moving adventure about creativity, paying attention, and the quiet courage of watching someone else be the person the moment needs. Perfect for readers aged 6-10 who love adventure, art, and characters who notice things everyone else walks straight past. The Whistwick Series: Book Three This item is printed on demand.
