Before the first golfer arrives, another golf course is already taking shape.
It is built through conversations, decisions, standards, trust, accountability, culture, and the people who arrive before sunrise to make excellence possible.
THE INVISIBLE GOLF COURSE™ challenges golf course superintendents to look beyond turf and recognize one of the most important responsibilities of their profession: leading people.
Technical knowledge can help you grow exceptional turf. But as your responsibilities increase, technical expertise alone is no longer enough.
You must learn to build trust. Communicate clearly. Develop people. Create accountability. Strengthen culture. Lead through pressure. Build systems. Prepare future leaders. And create an organization capable of performing even when you are not there.
In this practical leadership guide, Jorge J. Croda, CGCS introduces a new way of thinking about the superintendent's role—from technical expert to leader of culture, people, and performance.
Through practical principles, leadership questions, assessments, and tools—including the CRODA™ Superintendent Leadership Framework™, CRODA™ Leadership Maturity Model, and CRODA™ Daily Leadership System™—you will learn how to move from:
Doing the work → Developing people
Giving instructions → Creating understanding
Solving every problem → Developing problem solvers
Managing employees → Building leaders
Producing results → Creating sustainable excellence
Building a career → Creating a legacy
This is not a book about lowering standards.
It is about understanding how extraordinary people create extraordinary performance.
Whether you are an experienced superintendent, assistant superintendent, emerging leader, club executive, or golf industry professional, this book asks a question that can change the way you lead:
Who is becoming better because you lead here?
Because great superintendents don't just grow great turf.
They grow people.
They build culture.
They create leaders.
And they leave a legacy.
