Invention and Discovery, by Ralph and Chandos Temple, published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1896. This hardback is bound in the original pictorial cloth, with a pink ground decorated in black and gilt, featuring a banner title, foliate motifs and small vignettes of scientific instruments on the front board. The spine carries matching gilt decoration and the author's name. The title page confirms the title, authorship, publisher and date. The book includes fourteen illustrations, with the frontispiece depicting Arkwright's wife destroying the models. Condition-wise, the spine has faded and shows fraying at the head and tail. The boards carry a few marks, visible as spotting and discolouration on the rear cover. The front hinge is cracked at the title page but still holding. The text appears clean with light foxing noted on the page photographed. The textblock edges show a little toning consistent with age.
