From the Back Cover
Introduction to Operations Management
provides a comprehensive coverage of operations management for those who come to the subject for the first time. Central to the book is the convergence of service and manufacturing philosophies. It takes a management perspective whilst providing clear explanations of numerical models where relevant. The choice of themes in operations management covers the syllabuses of most readers, yet the book is compact enough to suit a semester course.
This new edition continues the clear writing style of the first edition, and includes many new features to assist learning. In-chapter exercises, lists of quick check-up points and structured assignment questions are added. There are many references to Internet sources for further investigation. A new chapter on supply chain management and e-commerce is a highlight, while other areas have been revised and updated. Many more examples from service and not-for-profit organisations, and from the public sector, have been included.
The second edition of Introduction to Operations Management
:
- Assumes no prior study of operations management.
- Includes coverage of latest developments including supply chain management, e-commerce and a greater emphasis on service quality.
- Thorough and analytical coverage focussing on management issues with inclusion of numerical models where relevant.
- Features useful learning aids including chapter objectives, introductory case-studies, quick check-up boxes with key points and longer discussion-based case-studies.
- The case studies and numerous examples use real organisations and problems. They are drawn from many nations, public and private sectors, and varied industries.
- Provides comprehensive references for further reading and pointers to web resources.
- Supported by a strong supplements package including a companion website with links to further reading and other resources, further exercises, multiple choice questions, and a lecturer’s manual complete with slides.
This book appeals to students with little or no background in business and management studies and operations management. It is ideal for those studying at HNC/D, BA/BSc, or MBA Postgraduate level in Business or Management.
John Naylor has worked as an operations manager and now teaches the discipline at Liverpool John Moores University.
