Print on Demand. This book explores the foundational elements of tragedy and comedy, investigating the principles of the two forms of dramatic art. It presents the historical evolution of these principles, tracing their journey from ancient Greece to the Renaissance, and then to the present day. The author delves into the nature of inwardness in modern tragedy, examining how the psychological complexity of characters has deepened over time, and how this contrasts with the tragedy of the Greeks. The book also analyzes the spirit of comedy, exploring the different types of comedy, from farce and melodrama to satire and wit, drawing out the characteristics that define each type and discussing their enduring appeal. Ultimately, this book provides a comprehensive analysis of the forms, functions, and development of tragedy and comedy in Western drama, offering insights into the ways in which these genres have shaped our understanding of the human condition. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
