The purpose of this 6th edition remains the same as the first five editions -- to provide an introduction to the scope, characteristics, and management aspects of the commercial recreation and tourism industry. This book offers a blend of conceptual and practical material to achieve a basic understanding of this diverse industry. While some of the content is oriented toward large and established businesses, the text also has an entrepreneurial orientation that is particularly applicable to smaller businesses and organisations. Future commercial recreation and tourism entrepreneurs will gain a wealth of useful ideas and information from these pages.

About the Author
John C Crossley earned a master's degree from the University of Georgia and a doctorate from the University of Utah, where he specialized in commercial recreation and tourism. He found it was serious fun to teach college students about the profession while at North Texas State, the University of Utah, and Fresno State University, where he served as Department Chair. During these years, John held summer jobs and part-time jobs as a water theme park operations manager, tour company owner/manager, and co-founder of a retail ski shop. Although he has numerous publications and presentations to his credit, Crossley considers his top achievement to be the lead author of the best-selling college text Introduction to Commercial Recreation and Tourism.
Russell E. Brayley, Ph.D., is a professor and Director of the Division of Sport, Recreation, and Tourism at George Mason University. His professional experience includes community recreation as a city recreation director and a senior community recreation consultant for the Government of Alberta, Canada. He served for many years as a board member and president of the Resort and Commercial Recreation Association. Dr. Brayley is an internationally recognized scholar and researcher, and he has held teaching, research, and administrative positions at the University of Manitoba, Indiana University, and George Mason University.
