Add to basketSeptember 1979 issue of Interview Magazine featuring cover star Liza Minnelli and signed "To Ellen" by Andy Warhol and Truman Capote. This issue of Andy Warhol s Interview Magazine features Liza Minnelli on the cover for the first time; she would again grace the cover of Interview s March 1991 issue. The actress had recently appeared in Martha Graham s 1978 production of The Owl and the Pussycat and was set to begin an eleven-day run of performances at Carnegie Hall coinciding with the magazine s publication. For her cover feature, Andy Warhol placed her in conversation with a series of friends including Graham; Studio 54 co-owner, Steve Rubell; Bianca Jagger; and the fashion designer Halston, with whom Minnelli had a longstanding close relationship. In addition to dressing Minnelli for parties, red carpets, and films, Halston also designed the costumes for The Owl and the Pussycat. The magazine s cover includes both a Warhol and Capote signature a striking feature, since the two famously disliked one another. Accompanying the magazine is the original envelope in which it was mailed to Ellen Frank of "To Ellen" on September 14, 1979. Offset with holograph dedication and signature in black marker in the hand of Andy Warhol and annotation in blue pen in unknown hand. Saddle-stapled. 11 x 17 in; framed to 12 ½ x 18 in. Very good.
