Synopsis:

Interpreters use exhibits, brochures, signs, websites, site publications, and other visual media to tell their stories. Written for interpreters who have little or no training in graphic design but find themselves responsible for creating or overseeing the production of nonpersonal media, Interpretation by Design focuses on using basic principles of both graphic design and interpretation in nonpersonal media. This book addresses how to make decisions about type, color, and composition, as well as why an interpretive approach may be more effective for communicating with your audience.

About the Author: (From Amazon) Paul Caputo has been the art and publications director for the National Association for Interpretation (NAI) since February 2002. He earned a master of fine arts in visual communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2001 and a bachelor of arts from the University of Richmond in 1995. He is a Certified Interpretive Trainer and the editor of Legacy magazine, and he has presented sessions on graphic design and interpretation nationally and internationally. Paul lives with his wife, Sheila, and their children, Joel and Maya, in Fort Collins, Colorado. Shea Lewis has been the park superintendent of Parkin Archeological State Park (Arkansas) since 2003. He has worked as an interpreter and chief of interpretation in Arkansas and Idaho since 1995. Shea earned a master of education from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1999 and a bachelor of science in education from the University of Memphis in 1996, and he is a Certified Heritage Interpreter and Certified Interpretive Manager. He received the 2006 Meritorious Service and 1998 Distinguished Young Professional Award from NAI Region 6. Shea lives in Parkin, Arkansas, with his wife, Sebrena, and children Gracie, Anna, and William. Lisa Brochu, author or co-author of four books on interpretation, specializes in interpretive master planning, interpretive writing, and training. In her role as associate director of the National Association for Interpretation, she is responsible for planning, development, and supervision of programs, products, and services. Lisa worked as a freelance consultant for more than three decades and has won numerous awards for her work, including NAI's prestigious Fellow Award, the highest honor given by NAI to recognize excellence, innovation, and leadership in the interpretive field. Lisa lives in Fort Collins, Colorado, with her husband, Tim Merriman.
