From the Publisher
The text has been completely updated to reflect the most current accounting standards and practices.
More real-world examples, international highlights, and conceptual issues have been added to the text and are depicted with icons for quick identification of material.
Integrated Learning objectives, margin notes, and a new, larger format will make this edition easier to read and comprehend.
Chasteen, Flaherty, and O'Connor are known and respected for providing a strong emphasis on the conceptual and theoretical issues underlying financial accounting. The conceptual framework is presented in Chapter 2 and reiterated throughout the text.
Early introduction to Revenue Recognition and the Statement of Cash Flow gives students a strong background in this important topic. Cash Flow is covered in greater depth at the end of the text (Chapter 21).
Abundant varieties of end-of-chapter exercises, problems, and cases allow for flexibility in student assignments. Material includes real-world cases, research and analysis cases, adapted CPA problems, and a wealth of exercises and problems.
The format of the problems in the end of the chapter material was used to create Smith/Birney: Interactive Intermediate Accounting Software. The program is a perfect partner wirh the text because it offers extra practice along with immediate feedback.
