Paperback. Interceptive Orthodontics in Pediatric Dentistry emphasizes early diagnosis and timely intervention during the mixed dentition phase (ages 6-12) to guide normal occlusal development and prevent complex malocclusions. It aims to correct developing irregularities such as crossbites, crowding, and deleterious oral habits before they worsen. Defined by the American Association of Orthodontists as the elimination of potential irregularities in the developing dentofacial complex, it bridges preventive and corrective orthodontics. The primary objectives include attaining normal growth potential, maintaining functional harmony, and ensuring a proper eruptive sequence. Common procedures involve space regaining, serial extraction, and habit interception using simple appliances. Early treatment provides advantages like psychological benefits, improved cooperation, and reduced need for later complex therapy, though it demands precise diagnosis, growth assessment, and patient compliance for long-term success.
