The orb used to fling him blindly across centuries. Now, it aims him.
After nearly a year of surviving history on pure panic and bruised knees, Lucas had made a begrudging peace with being a passenger. Then, in a moonlit courtyard in fourth-century India, the artifact does something it has never done before: it refuses to take him home.
It isn't a malfunction. The orb has stopped running. It has an objective.
Suddenly, Lucas is being deployed into history's quiet tipping points. An estate in 1780s Scotland, where a forgotten boy was never supposed to live. A smoke-filled Berlin cabaret in the bitter winter of 1933, just weeks before Germany descends into nightmare. In each era, Lucas discovers a brutal truth: history doesn't care about flesh and blood; it runs on ink, ledgers, and whispered orders. And paper can be altered.
Then, in the shadow of a changing world, an immaculate stranger in a tailored coat sits down across from him. His name is Ambrose. He is four centuries old and he knows everything about the orb and its mechanics.
But Ambrose isn't making threats. He's telling the simple, terrifying truth. And that is what makes him dangerous.
Between Intentions is the fourth book in the Between Spaces series.
