8vo (25 cm), VIII, 154 pp. Untrimmed in printed wrappers (wrappers slightly frayed at extremities and creased; first leaves age-toned). First edition of this important work in the Collection de Monographies sur la Théorie des Fonctions, directed by Émile Borel, with the proofs read with the assistance of Paul Montel and Henri Lebesgue. The monograph is organized in three parts: the first two treat additive set functions and the Lebesgue integral, comprising six chapters on absolutely continuous and additive set functions, indefinite integrals, and normal set functions; the third part addresses the classes of functions introduced by René Baire, including discussions of Baire's theorem, generalized Lebesgue and Baire conditions, and the existence of the classes. The work provides a clear synthesis of the foundational contributions of Borel, Lebesgue, and Baire to modern real analysis and measure theory.
