Publisher's original brown cloth, gilt lettered to spines, some rubbing to extremities, particularly pronounced to rear board and fore-edges of second volume, lower corner also bumped, hinges of both volumes starting a touch but holding nicely, contents are generally clean and tidy save for mild spotting to endpapers, occasional dusty patches of text, some early pages of second volume a little 'sticky' and text block of first volume a little stiff, results of mild atmosphering (see photos), otherwise the volumes make a pleasing pair, scarce found together without library marks or labels; the Thorold Rogers edition, complete in two volumes, editor's preface etc., a worthy set to grace the shelves. lii, 423, [32 cat]; viii, 594pp.
