This method of development has necessarily resulted in defer ring the study of the Ionic Theory until the student has mastered the fundamental laws of the science. In itself this is no dis advantage because the student passes straight from the study of the ionic theory to the chemistry of the metals, where the theory may be most usefully applied.
For the ideas concerning oxidation which have been developed in Chapter XI, the author is indebted to Professor B. D. Steele, D.so., who has found this method of dealing with the subject of great help to the student when considering the reactions and properties of the halogens.
