Since arriving in Australia in 1951, Inge King (1915-2016) stood at the forefront of modern sculpture, permanently transforming the Australian landscape with her monumental, elegant, and powerful steel forms. Inge King: Constellation is the definitive survey published by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) to accompany the major 2014 exhibition. It traces her extraordinary artistic career, from her early figurative works and rarely seen jewellery designs to the rough-hewn welded assemblages of the 1960s, and the sleek, monumental public sculptures that define Melbourne's urban space-most notably the iconic Forward Surge. Featuring meticulous curatorial insights and stunning photography, this book illuminates King's commitment to non-figurative sculpture, her working process utilizing maquettes, and the profound impact of her enduring creative partnership with her late husband, Grahame King. Explore the complete universe of one of Australia's most senior and influential artists, whose works-like stars in a constellation-create a pattern of enduring formal refinement and material power.…
