Add to basketThis book provides a detailed review of the scaled-up production of nanoparticles. A recent estimation suggests that the global nanotechnology is a trillion-dollar business with the exponential rise of nanotechnology-based industries worldwide. In such scenario, nanoparticle production plays a vital role. This book describes the fundamentals, practical aspects, and pros and cons of nanoparticle production techniques such as nanocrystallization, sonochemical methods, supercritical fluid technologies, emulsion techniques, nanolithographic techniques, high-pressure homogenization techniques, spray drying techniques, extrusion, mechanical milling, plasma techniques, sol-gel and solvothermal methods, vapor-phase production, microreactors, microbial factories, and laser technology. In addition, quality assurance in nanoparticle production and lifecycle assessment in nanomaterials production will be discussed. The content of this text will give insight to practitioners and researchers during the selection of nanoparticle production technologies in industrial-scale nanoparticle manufacturing for various applications. In addition, this book will be a practical guide for scaled-up production of nanoparticles for undergraduate and graduate-level students and also useful for Ph.D. students.
Professor Nadeesh Adassooriya is currently attached to the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He holds a B.Sc. Honors University of Sri Jayewardenepura, M.Sc. in chemical and process engineering at University of Moratuwa, and a Ph.D. in engineering in the field of energy materials from University of Cambridge, UK. In 2022, he completed a research fellowship at Massachusetts Institute Technology (MIT), USA, in the field of nanocrystals. He has authored/co-authored over 100 research publications, which were presented at well-reputed journals and international/national conferences, and his publications have been cited over 2000 times with H-index of 22 to date. He holds two US patents to his name on nanofertlizers, and one of them holds the record of first nanotechnology-based US patent from Sri Lanka. He has contributed to over 30 book chapters in nanotechnology-related areas published by leading international publishers.
Dr. Aruna Manipura was a senior lecturer attached to the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and currently he works as an independent chemical and environmental engineering consultant. He obtained B.Sc. Eng. in chemical engineering from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and M.Sc. from University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka. He completed his Ph.D. in biotechnology from Rhodes University, South Africa, in 2007. He worked as a research associate for University of Manchester, UK, and University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK, until 2013. He has contributed to over 50 publications and has contributed to numerous industry projects as a chemical engineering consultant.
Prof. Azamal Husen is a distinguished scholar with over two decades of expertise in nanobiotechnology, plant physiology, environmental botany, medicinal plants, and clonal propagation. He has held senior academic roles, including Full Professor and Head of the Department of Biology at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia, and currently serves as a Foreign Delegate at Wolaita Sodo University, Ethiopia, and Adjunct Professor at Graphic Era University, India. He has also served as a Professor at Sankalchand Patel University and Visiting Faculty at leading Indian institutions. Prof. Husen has led multiple nationally and internationally funded research projects, contributed extensively to curriculum development, trained academic professionals worldwide, delivered various lecture and has been also honored by the University of Gondar for outstanding service.
