As a child, Sonnie had been content growing up in Zion Pass, a colony which portrays a picture-perfect community catering to those who desire a picture-perfect lifestyle. But as she reaches her adolescent years, Sonnie begins feeling like she doesn't belong while becoming defiant at home. Then she meets Edgar, a mysterious boy who enlightens her about their unjust government.and to her mother's dismay, Sonnie becomes more and more adamant about leaving their little colony when she turns eighteen. However, destiny decides for her, and Sonnie's life forever changes when she and two young children suddenly experience a shocking event, forcing them to flee Zion Pass.
