These knowledge systems encompass approaches to prevention, healing, and community care that have been passed down across generations and continue to serve as important sources of health knowledge for many populations today. Despite their longstanding contributions, Indigenous medical practices have often been marginalized within mainstream healthcare systems and scientific discourse. Growing recognition of cultural diversity in healthcare, however, has renewed interest in understanding how Indigenous knowledge can contribute to more inclusive, effective, and person-centered approaches to health. Indigenous Medical Knowledge in Contemporary Healthcare explores the role, relevance, and application of Indigenous healing traditions within modern healthcare contexts. Bringing together interdisciplinary perspectives, this book highlights how Indigenous approaches can inform healthcare delivery, public health initiatives, patient-centered care, and community wellbeing. Covering topics such as indigenous postnatal care practices, mind-body-spirit knowledge systems, and mental illness, this book is a fundamental academic resource for graduate and doctoral students, healthcare professionals, physicians, nurses, allied health practitioners, nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, healthcare administrators, policymakers, and more.…
