"The Indian Tribes of the Chicago Region" is a comprehensive anthropological and historical survey that explores the lives, cultures, and migrations of the Native American peoples who inhabited the area surrounding what is now Chicago. The work provides a detailed account of various tribes, including the Illiniwek, Miami, and Potawatomi, tracing their presence from the prehistoric era through the period of European contact and subsequent displacement.

The text delves into the social structures, religious beliefs, and artistic traditions of these indigenous communities, offering insights into their relationship with the local landscape and the evolving geopolitical pressures of the Great Lakes region. William Duncan Strong synthesizes archaeological evidence and historical records to paint a vivid picture of the complex cultural tapestry that defined northern Illinois and southern Lake Michigan for centuries. This scholarly study serves as an essential resource for those interested in Midwest history, Native American studies, and the early ethno-history of the American frontier. By documenting the traditions and shifts of the region's first inhabitants, the work preserves a vital chapter of North American heritage and provides a foundational understanding of the Chicago area's indigenous legacy.
