Drawing this cute little guy will bring you hours of pure pleasure and a wealth of new found techniques and confidence. Under Donna Mulley's expert guidance and clear, generous instruction, you are sure to create a stunning portrait. Pastelmat is a newer surface that is currently all the rage, and you will soon see why, as you learn to create depth and detail like white fur, luminous eyes and soft, floppy ears on this forgiving surface.
The clear instruction will guide you from step 1 to done with helpful tips along the way. You'll master a new surface and new techniques that will breathe life into your pet portraits.
What you'll learn
- Water Underpainting: Blending dry Caran d'Ache Aquarelle pencils with water will form the first layers of color and add more depth and volume to your finished drawing. You'll then use Faber-Castell pencils to add detail on top of the underpainted surface.
- Drawing on Pastelmat: The soft blue background chosen for this project will allow the white fur coat to pop and also saves you time - you don't have to draw a background! Pastelmat's smooth surface can also handle layer after layer to get details just right.
- Realistic Fur: Donna helps you pay attention to the shape and direction of the fur as your drawing and notice patterns in texture and lighting to create a stunning, shiny coat.

ABOUT IN-DEPTH TUTORIALS: Created by master colored pencil artists, each In-Depth tutorial features 30+ steps and focuses on teaching you why and not just how the artist applies their technique. No book or video comes close to the amount of instruction in an In-Depth tutorial. Art instruction books typically contain 4-6 steps per demo. That just scratches the surface! With large images and 30 or more steps, In-Depth tutorials truly show you exactly how the artist works, making it easy to truly learn new colored pencil techniques and achieve success.
About the Author: Inspired by a love of dogs and encouraged by family and friends, Donna dusted the cobwebs off her pencils and paints once her grown-up children had flown the nest. These days she spends much of her time with her pencil in hand and dogs at her feet, producing pet portraits and animal art in pencil and paint.
About the Editor: Ann Kullberg has written numerous colored pencil instruction books, has taught colored pencil workshops for over 30 years in 6 couuntires, founded COLOR magazine, a monthly magazine devoted to colored pencil artists, and has published more than 80 colored pencil instructional books and tutorials. www.annkullberg.com for workshop listings and instant downloads of all books and tutorials.
