Concerned with the fundamental questions of theology, Lossky addresses the following: can we really know God? How are we to understand the relation of creation to the Creator? Where is it that we are to find the heart of the Christian message? In the process of answering questions such as these, the author shows the doctrinal issues are not just abstract propositions for theological debate but affect the whole of Church life.
About the Author:
Vladimir Lossky established himself as one of the most brilliant Orthodox scholars in the years between his departure from Russia in 1923 and his death in 1958. His uncompromising faithfulness to scriptural and patristic tradition, coupled with his constant concern for an articulate Orthodox witness in the West, make his works indispensable for an understanding of the theology of the Eastern Church today.

Paper Back. Condition: New. What is apophatic theology? What role do darkness and light play in biblical and patristic theology? Were Greek and Latin theological differences over the procession of the Holy Spirit an example of semantic pedantry or do they reveal a substantial parting of the ways between East and West? What is deification? What does it mean when we say that human beings bear the image of God? Could the Christological decisions of Chalcedon possibly have anything to say about our conception of human nature and individuality? What is catholicity? What is tradition? This collection of essays is controversial, yet not polemical, theological investigation and clarification of the highest order. 232 pp. Seller Inventory # 5629
