Item description from seller

Awkward yet lovely examples of English conversations reprinted from Van der Pijl's Common teaching method for those who are beginning to learn the English language. This third edition is an unauthorized reprint published by the famous teacher of the Numazu Military Academy, Watanabe On. The compiler of the reprint edition, which became an original text for Watanabe, was Garatama-sensei (or Koenraad Wolter Gratama, 1831-1888), a Dutch teacher at Kaiseijo, the first university established by the Tokugawa government. Text in English. 1 volume complete. 18x12cm. 26 leaves. Movable type printing. Ex-owner stamps and publishing dates erased. Pages repaired. Lacking title slip, ink stains on the title page & colophon page. Original fukuro toji binding. Very good condition.
