Paperback. "Identity & Reality" is a foundational work in the philosophy of science and epistemology. This profound treatise explores the fundamental tension between the human mind's inherent drive to find identity-constancy and permanence-within the ever-changing flux of the physical world. Emile Meyerson meticulously analyzes the development of scientific thought, arguing that the scientific endeavor is not merely a search for laws but a deeper quest for explanation based on the principle of identity.By examining concepts such as causality, the conservation of energy, and the role of mathematics in understanding nature, the book offers a rigorous critique of positivism. Meyerson suggests that human reason seeks to bridge the gap between abstract logical identities and the diverse, irreversible phenomena of reality. A masterpiece of rationalist thought, "Identity & Reality" provides essential insights into how we construct knowledge and how the laws of nature are interpreted through the lens of human cognition. It remains a vital reference for students and scholars of philosophy, science history, and the logic of discovery. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
