Book Condition: Near Fine; light suntoning to top of boards. DJ: Very Good; clear acetate cover with light rubbing and closed tear on rear panel near head. Marbled paper over boards with 1/4 green leather overlay on the spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine. Banded head and tail; four ribs on spine outlined in black. Clean internal. Inner hinges are sound and not split. 161 pp 8vo. The story is set in the late 19th century and follows the life of a young fisherman named Yann Gaos. Yann is born and raised in the small fishing village of Paimpol, located on the coast of Brittany, France. Yann's father is also a fisherman, and he has grown up learning the skills of the trade from him.As a young man, Yann decides to leave his village and travel to Iceland to try his luck as a fisherman there. The novel follows Yann's adventures as he navigates the treacherous waters of the North Atlantic and tries to make a living catching fish in the harsh Icelandic climate. Along the way, he meets a variety of interesting characters, including other fishermen, sailors, and locals.The novel is known for its vivid descriptions of the Icelandic landscape and the challenges faced by those who make their living from the sea.
