Abrasioni alle cerniere. Piatti e tagli marmorizzati. Ex libris George Cave. Arguto resoconto di un viaggio compiuto in Italia tra il 1819 e il 1820 dalla scrittrice irlandese Lady Sydney Morgan (Dublino, 25 dicembre 1781 (?) ? Londra, 14 aprile 1859), pseudonimo di Sydney Owenson, assieme al marito. Proprio a lui, Sir Charles Morgan, si devolno le note sulla legislazione, sulle statistiche e sulle dispute letterarie, come l'appendice sullo stato della medicina in Italia. "Il libro presenta una miscela di generi: è nello stesso tempo un reportage letterario, un diario personale, un manifesto ideologico e patriottico in difesa dell'indipendenza dell'Italia dal dominio austriaco, avvertita affine alla situazione dell'Irlanda del tempo, un resoconto frivolo, arricchito da indiscrezioni e opinioni mordaci sulle personalità dell'epoca incontrate durante i viaggi nella Penisola. La vicinanza di Lady Morgan con gli ambienti liberali italiani è testimoniata dalle citazioni che la riguardano presenti nel Carteggio del conte Federico Confalonieri pubblicato nei primi del Novecento a cura di Giuseppe Gallavresi, e nelle Memorie del patriota piemontese Santorre di Santa Rosa. L?intento di "Italy" è quello di illustrare non più il glorioso passato italiano, ma la sua contemporaneità; non si limita a descrivere, ma dà giudizi critici, nella prospettiva di indicare le vie per un futuro cambiamento, pensato all'insegna della lotta per l'unità e per l'indipendenza nazionale. In vari capitoli del libro Lady Morgan analizza la condizione delle donne italiane, mettendo in relazione il loro stato di arretratezza culturale con la condizione di mancanza di libertà, oppressione e marginalità patita dall'Italia sotto il dominio asburgico. Tale punto di vista verrà in seguito confutato dall'aristocratica ferrarese Ginevra Canonici Fachini, che in un saggio di risposta alla scrittrice irlandese comparso all'interno del suo "Prospetto biografico delle donne italiane", pubblicato Venezia nel 1823, assumerà ad oltranza la difesa delle donne, della moralità e della cultura italiane. Lord Byron sosterrà la veridicità delle immagini di vita riportate dall'autrice nell'opera. Le descrizioni del paese redatte da Lady Morgan sono il frutto di studi storici che serviranno da base anche per il suo lavoro su Salvator Rosa, "The Life and Times of Salvator Rosa" (1824). "Italy" fu tradotta anche in lingua francese, ma in Italia e negli altri territori dell'Impero austriaco il libro venne giudicato un testo apertamente antimonarchico e anticuriale, e dunque non venne mai tradotto" (da Wikipedia). > Pine-Coffin, 81914. Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.

Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
