Photographs are of mills, tunnels, railroads, mines, pipes, waterfalls, etc. In 1906, in Kimberly, Alabama, the photographer captured Coal Tipple of the Central Coal Company. Then, the Good Surface Plant in Warrior, Alabama. Of the building of the compressor house, the photographer heeds: "Needs a label alright. Put up by a crazy n***er." In Ensley, Birmingham, Alabama, the photographer captures the gears and general operations at the Rail Mill. Nearby, photographs were made of the metallic infrastructure of the Cupola Melting furnace at the Pipe foundry, the tipple and slope at the Republic Iron & Steel Company, and a steam plumb at the pit mouth. At the Tennessee Coal and Iron Company the rolling mill, open hearth, and railroad tracks are pictured. To every image of freely running rivers or waterfalls, the caption says something of untapped potential power, regarding the power that s going to waste. This speaks to the mentality of extractive economies. Many photographs were made at the "Howling Molly Mine". One image of laid tracks is provided with a caption which suggests "4000 ft. Of damn foolishness". A couple pages later a freight accident is picture with a caption that reads, "Gymnastic feat performed by a snow slide. Mill was wrecked but immediately rebuilt in the same place". There are a few images that were made in at the Greene Construction Copper Company in Cananea, Mexico during the Spring of 1907. Pictured here is the smelter, the conveyors, tunnel and tracks, etc. Also pictured, are primitive structures. The last few photos are from Wohurst, Colorado in 1907, and are family photos. This 7 1/4" x 10 3/4" photo album of 16 leaves/32 pages contains 49 photographs. The images are tucked between stiff card stock and a black page with cut outs to view, and each has a sticker attached identifying the photo. There appear to be 16 missing photographs where the slot is empty and/or the black paper has been ripped.
