Reprint. Hardback. First published 1777. London edition, printed by Cox, Fils et Baylis. 12mo. pp. 416. Engraved frontispiece. Contemporary full calf gilt ruled on spine. Bookplate of John Casey. French text. Jean-François Marmontel (1723 – 1799) a French historian and writer and member of the Encyclopedist movement was close to Rousseau. Here he gives a history of the conquest of Peru in 'the alert style of a classic and the curious mind of a encyclopedist.' Covers a little rubbed and worn at extremities, otherwise close very good. Some wear and scuffing at edges otherwise sound close very good.
