Stuck below Band 7 in IELTS Speaking and Writing?
Your vocabulary may be the reason.
Many IELTS candidates know basic English well enough, but still struggle to get the score they need because they lack the topic vocabulary that appears again and again in the exam. This book shows you how to fix that.
IELTS 7+ Vocabulary Secrets teaches you the 10 core IELTS topics that are most useful for Speaking and Writing, so you can build the vocabulary, phrases, and confidence needed to perform at a higher level.
Used by IELTS candidates around the world for years, this proven study system has helped students strengthen their vocabulary, write more effectively, and break through the Band 7 barrier.
Written by IELTS tutor and examiner Peter Swires, this book gives you:
• Clear explanations of the 10 essential IELTS topics
• Hundreds of advanced words and phrases organised by topic
• Band 9 model essays showing how high-scoring vocabulary is used in real answers
• Practice writing tasks and model responses
• Guidance on using vocabulary effectively in Speaking as well as Writing
This is not just another word list. It is a practical study system designed to help you understand:
• what vocabulary to learn
• how to use it naturally
• how to apply it in both IELTS Speaking and Writing
If you want Band 7 or higher, you need more than memorised words. You need vocabulary that fits the topics IELTS uses most often — and a clear method for using that vocabulary with confidence.
Fully updated for 2026, the topics covered are:
- Work and careers
- Education and schooling
- Children and families
- Nature, the environment and energy
- Culture, art and traditions
- Healthcare, health and sport
- Global challenges
- Cities and infrastructure
