Synopsis

For the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia, by participating in the IEA study ICILS 2023 (International Computer and Information Literacy Study 2023) as a so-called benchmark participant via a sample extension for the second time after ICILS 2018, results on the computational and information-related competences of Achtkk and whose competences in the field of 'computational thinking' as well as on the framework conditions of competence acquisition are reported in national and international comparison. In addition to results on the digital competences of the students, findings on framework conditions and processes of school education in digital transformation from the perspective of students, teachers and school leaders as well as on technological frameworks in North Rhine-Westphalia can be provided on an empirically sound basis. For the first time, from the perspective of North Rhine-Westphalia, a comparison can be drawn over a period of five years over two survey dates. The findings are supplemented with results on central background features of the students as well as school shape differences.
The special feature of the ICILS study is that the computer and information-related competences of students of the 8th year level as well as their competencies in the field of 'computational thinking' can be recorded with computer-based testing. In addition, the school framework conditions of competence acquisition as well as teaching and learning with digital media are mapped from different perspectives of school actors via the use of corresponding questionnaires.
This publication presents first results for North Rhine-Westphalia on the identified areas of competence and the framework conditions of competence acquisition and shows selected NRW-specific analyses on NRW-specific questions in addition to the international results, each classified in the context of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the context of digitalisation-related transformation processes, the volume is therefore aimed at readers interested in the development of school and teaching in North Rhine-Westphalia and beyond.
