For every kid who's ever been told they're too much.
Maya Chen has a brain that never stops. She talks too fast, thinks too loud, and has spent her whole life being called disruptive. A handful. Too much.
Then she falls through a glowing crack in her grandmother's garden wall — and lands in a world that's dying.
The Realm of Flow is a magical place of silver trees, rivers of light, and mountains that sing. But a force called the Eraser is spreading across it, draining everything of colour, difference, and life — replacing it all with gray sameness. The Controllers want everyone to think the same, feel the same, be the same.
To save it, Maya needs to team up with Tobin, a quiet boy who hears the emotions behind words, and Lila, a fierce girl who sees through illusions. Together, they must navigate impossible riddles, a bog that shows your deepest fears, and a final confrontation with an ancient being that chose stillness over feeling.
The Realm doesn't need someone who sits still.
It needs Maya. Exactly as she is.
Perfect for:
- Kids with ADHD, sensory sensitivities, or anyone who has ever felt "too much"
- Fans of Fish in a Tree, Percy Jackson, and The One and Only Ivan
- Parents and educators looking for neurodivergent representation in middle grade fiction
- Independent readers Ages 8–12, Grades 3–7
From the author:
"I wrote this for the kids who were always told they were too much. Turns out — that was exactly the point."
— Trinity Mosswood
