This classic exposition of the art and sport of hunting with the bow and arrow, takes the reader through some of the historical uses of the bow in hunting, to the practice of making a bow, shooting the bow, and general info on archery and its equipment. Specific chapters detail the hunting of the raccoon, wildcat, fox, wolf, deer, bear, and mountain lion. Hunting adventures of the author and his hunting pals are gloriously illustrated in words with numerous photographs.
About the Author: It is difficult to imagine the great wilderness that existed in the United States before the modern age, and yet we are only 100-some years removed from a land that was densely populated — with forests and animals. Saxton Pope had the benefit of contact with one of the last members of the Yahi tribe in California, and from him he learned and perfected the art of bow hunting. His incomparable 1922 guide, Hunting with the Bow and Arrow, reflects both the close relationship Pope shared with that Yahi tribesman and a bygone era that is today emulated by the Pope and Young Club.
