Print on Demand. This book is a rich presentation of the moral journey undertaken by humankind as we have gone from an age marked by darkness and superstition to one defined by the bright lights of science. Exploring the critical developments in human existence, the author illustrates the intensity of humanity's resistance to the acceptance of new ideas while capturing the transformative power of human ingenuity and the pursuit of knowledge. Through a diverse array of carefully selected sources ranging from Galileo to Darwin and beyond, the book prompts consideration of the uncomfortable and paradoxical truth that the great truths underpinning our collective knowledge have consistently faced virulent opposition and skepticism from the very people they ultimately liberate. Ultimately, this book is an inspiring testament to the unconquerable nature of the human spirit—our infinitely curious and resilient spirit of inquiry that, despite the immense challenges it may encounter, ultimately prevails in advancing our understanding of the universe and our place within it. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

The Hundred Lessons in English are designed to meet a condition and not a theory; to aid in solving certain problems of fact as they are, rather than to speculate upon principles and questions of what ought to be.
With all our modern pedagogical methods, superior instructors, and improved facilities for teaching, it is true that students ought, after from seven to nine years of study, to come from our elementary schools equipped with a knowledge of English sufficient, at least, to en able them to write a simple letter, in proper form, and with grammatical correctness; the fact is, however, as the author has observed after examining the work of hundreds of such students, that not one in fifty can write an ordinary business letter, in good form, with correct punctuation, free from numerous misspelled words, and without var-ious grammatical inaccuracies.
