"Humours of a Peat Commission" is a spirited and satirical exploration of local bureaucracy and social life in the Shetland Islands. This work continues the humorous chronicle of a fictional commission, capturing the unique dialect, customs, and eccentricities of the Northern Isles during the early 20th century. It serves as both a comedy of manners and a vivid portrait of a community navigating the complexities of local governance and tradition.

Through sharp wit and keen observation, Thomas Manson brings to life the vibrant characters and idiosyncratic situations that arise when officialdom meets the practical realities of island life. The narrative is deeply rooted in the regional identity of the Shetland people, utilizing local vernacular to enhance the comedic effect and provide an authentic sense of place. "Humours of a Peat Commission" stands as a significant piece of Scottish regional literature, offering valuable insight into the social history of the islands while providing timeless entertainment through its portrayal of human nature and the often-absurd nature of committee-led decision-making. This volume is essential for those interested in the rich literary and cultural heritage of Scotland's Northern Isles.
