Human Nature and Its Remaking. This item is unavailable.Human Nature and Its Remaking

"Human Nature and Its Remaking" is a profound exploration of the plasticity of the human spirit and the processes by which innate instincts are transformed into ethical and social values. This work delves into the intersection of psychology, religion, and philosophy to examine how human nature is not a fixed entity but a substance capable of significant refinement and transformation.

William Ernest Hocking argues that while humans are born with raw, unrefined impulses, these drives are shaped through the powerful influences of education, social institutions, and spiritual insight. The book offers a comprehensive analysis of the role of art, politics, and religion in the development of the individual, proposing that the ultimate goal of human life is the realization of a higher, more integrated self. By addressing the classic tension between biological inheritance and the social environment, Hocking provides a hopeful perspective on the capacity for moral evolution and the persistence of human potential.

As a foundational text in the tradition of American idealism, "Human Nature and Its Remaking" remains a compelling study for readers interested in the philosophy of mind, the ethics of self-transformation, and the historical intersections of psychology and faith. It offers timeless insights into how the individual self is forged within the context of a wider community and a spiritual reality.
