From the Back Cover
Human Molecular Genetics provides an essential introduction to this complex and fast moving field. The material covered has been carefully selected and structured to provide a concise overview for second and third year undergraduate students taking modules within general biological or genetics degrees.
The book explains the special problems encountered in human genome analysis and describes the methodologies that have been developed to construct genetic and physical maps of the human genome. It describes the characterisation of genes responsible for single gene disorders, the dissection of complex or multifactorial diseases, gene therapy and gene testing. The history, goals and progress of the human genome project are considered along with the strategies that will be employed to complete the sequencing of the genome by the early years of the twenty-first century.
boxed case studies and techniques facilitate student comprehension of core topics
includes important genetic disorders and genetic counselling
places science in a real world context by considering the social, legal and ethical issues arising from developments in human molecular genetics
the extensive references within the text are kept up-to-date through a linked Web site
Peter Sudbery is Senior Lecturer in Genetics at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Sheffield University.
The Cell and Molecular Biology series provides introductions to key, exciting areas of cell and molecular biology, stimulating student's imaginations and initiative to bridge the gap between memorising concepts and the active approach needed for research and literature review projects. This active learning series also introduces students to experimental design and information retrieval and analysis, including exploration of the World Wide Web.

Store description
In 2002, World of Books Group was founded on an ethos to do good, protect the planet and support charities by enabling more goods to be reused. Since then, we've grown into to a global company pioneering the circular economy. Today, we drive the circular economy through three re-commerce brands: - Wob: Through Wob, we sell. We provide affordable, preloved books and media to customers all over the world. A book leaves our collection of over seven million titles and begins a new chapter every two seconds, enabling more goods to be reused. - Ziffit: Through Ziffit, we buy. We give people around the world the opportunity to contribute to the circular economy, earn money and protect the planet, by trading their unwanted books and media. - Shopiago: Through Shopiago, we help others. By sharing the technology that has grown World of Books Group into the business it is today, we’re helping charities increase revenue and reduce waste through re-commerce.…
