The illustrations rendered in coloured onlays on the front covers comprise: Christopher lying on the grass (When We Were Very Young) Christopher Robin pulling on his boots (Winne-the - Pooh)Christopher Robin standing in the rain in wellingtons, raincoat and rain hat (The House at Pooh Corner) and Christopher Robin skipping with a rope (Now We are Six) Bound in red, blue, green and bright red crushed morocco by Bayntun Riviere , their binders gilt stamp on front turn-ins, spine with raised bands and lettered in gilt with small gilt bear at he centre of the spine, front covers with illustrations after E. H. Shepard in coloured onlays, covers with gilt fillet borders, gilt edges, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, original cloth covers and spine bound in at end together with original pictorial endpapers when issued. First Deluxe edition. The character of Winnie-the-Pooh appeared first in the 38th poem of Milne's 1924 book "When We Were Very Young," originally published in Punch Magazine in February 1924. It was a Christmas Eve story in 1925, commissioned by the Evening News, where Winnie-the-Pooh made his first appearance under this name. Very light wear at corners and head and tail of spine, minor along edges. Minor stain (1 x 1/2") at bottom of back cover near spine. Endpapers with minor age-toning along gutters.
