House Maintenance and Repairs (1965) by G.C.A. Tanner ? Penguin Books Offered by Crappy Old Books ? because not everything ages like fine wine. Long before YouTube tutorials and MDF everything, G.C.A. Tanner laid out the nuts, bolts, and common sense of keeping a British home upright and vaguely waterproof. House Maintenance and Repairs (1965) is a charmingly no-nonsense guide to the domestic arts: from patching plaster to taming rogue gutters, all delivered in clipped prose and a tone that assumes you own a hammer, a ladder, and a spine. This Penguin edition has certainly seen some DIY action itself ? foxed, faded, possibly dropped in paint ? but still clinging proudly to its integrity, much like the draughty houses it was written to save. Crappy Old Books ? Built to last, like your dad?s shed.
