'I read this book in excitement and wonder. It's not only a touching and fascinating book, but a sophisticated one as well.' Amos Oz
Linda Yechiel's English translation is the winner of the 2023 Society of Authors' TLS-Risa Domb/Porjes Prize for Hebrew Translation
Yoel has always known that his mother escaped the Nazis from Amsterdam. But it is not until after she has died that he finally visits the city of his birth. There, watching an old film clip at the Jewish Historical Museum, he sees a woman with a small child: it is his mother, but the child is not him. So begins a fervent search for the truth that becomes the subject of his magnum opus, revealing Amsterdam's dark wartime history and the underground networks which hid Jewish children away from danger - but at a cost.

About the Author
Emuna Elon is an internationally bestselling, critically acclaimed novelist, journalist, teacher, and women's activist. Born in Jerusalem to a family of prominent rabbis and scholars, she was raised in Jerusalem and New York and currently lives in Jerusalem. She teaches Judaism and Hasidism and has published 4 novels, 8 short stories and 7 children's books. Her first novel translated into English, If You Awaken Love, was a National Jewish Book Award finalist.
House On Endless Waters was translated from its original Hebrew by the late Anthony Berris (1934-2018) and Linda Yechiel, a Canadian-born editor and translator based in Israel.
Linda Yechiel was born in Toronto, Canada and moved to Israel in 1982. She has been working as a translator and English editor for the past 12 years. She earned her certificate in English editing from Beit Berl College in 2010 and an MA (magna cum laude) in Literary Translation from Bar Ilan University in 2016. When she is not trying to find that 'perfect word', she may be engaging in her many hobbies such as painting, felting, crafting, sewing, gardening and (naturally!) reading. She is married with three grown children (and two grandchildren). She also shares her home with three rescued cats.
