Paperback. Danielle Sanderson hates her name. Only one person is allowed to use the full version, that being her best friend Alex. One day, Dani witnesses a terrible car accident, leaving her wondering if she'll ever get to hear Alex say her name again. Trauma, nightmares, anxiety, and depression. Loss, love, sexuality, and guilt. Dani is quite the bundle of nerves and self-doubt, dealing with issues she doesn't want to bother Alex with, and Alex has willingly stuck to Dani's side like glue since the day she was born. Alex's talent for hyperawareness can get her into trouble, but is a useful tool when it comes to helping Dani. What would happen if Alex's attention wasn't solely on Dani anymore? What happens when the tall, ruggedly handsome Pete, steals Alex's eye? Meanwhile, Cleo struggles with a gender identity they didn't ask for, masking all their pain behind a front of humor and indifference, always seen as the "happy friend." Family matters are complicated, but at least they can count on their two best friends. as long as those two aren't too preoccupied with each other. This is the story of three friends, thrown together by proximity and relatability, growing up with a mutual understanding for one another, each dealing with the pressures of being LGBTQ, just trying to get out of high school.
