Different types of texts are presented, some theoretical, others practical, coming out of concrete experiences in a specific context.
Whilst a holistic perspective on reality and on education is not new, there is a new recognition of its significance at a time when the dominant world view clearly shows its limits.
The book comes out of the ecumenical movement and is one outcome of the Holistic Education Study Process of the World Council of Churches. It contributes to a dialogue between education philosophy and religious education, spiritual education and the search for peace and justice, reconciliation and healing as a yearning of all human beings.

Review
This resource book is very user-friendly, containing both theoretical and practical approaches that are clearly accessible along with a wealth of useful texts, websites, comments and contributions. It offers a range of educational perspectives and approaches, and I would thoroughly recommend this book to all those engaged in personal and/or professional development as a stimulus to their own life-long learning and practice. --Roz Sunley in: Religious Education. Secondary News. Summer Term 2006. P. 38.
His [David Goodbourn's] conclusion is a succinct statement of why this book as a whole is valuable and timely: "Holistic education is a delicate plant - always under threat, always in danger of being choked by larger and more aggressive plants. But it is a plant which has the power to heal and transform. It needs to be nurtured".
--Robin Richardson in: British Journal of Religious Education, Vol. 28, No. 3, 2006, P. 294ff.
