A story book for young readers published by, and advertising, the Quaker Oats Company. Shows how Quaker targeted its core market, middle class American families, via stories for young readers in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Includes poems and different vignettes starring Peter and Nancy, two American children who learn where grain and food comes from by learning about different periods of history (e.g. Ancient Egypt, Roman Scotland). Includes a few in-text illustrations related to the stories. Education meets advertising. Single vol. (7.5" by 5.5"), pp. 109, pp. 3, color illus., in original color illustrated wrps. depicting Peter and Nancy frolicking through a field. Very good to near-fine. Minor rubbing to extremities.
