That is, until a prominent spokeswoman for the movement is found dead on the back lawn of Adele's uncle's hotel.

Grai's estate harbors old-growth timber perfect for the picking but Grai kept a promise to his grandfather to keep the forest pristine and allow the neighboring Salish tribe to live there peacefully.
When a friend's livery stable burns to the ground, the residents of Port Summerhill are led by a former deputy (who has an agenda of his own) to believe the Salish were the arsonists. To keep the townspeople from rioting, Grai and Adele must prove the Salish tribe innocent. The stakes intensify when a body is found in the forest on Grai's property and a young Salish woman flees the scene.
