4to, 28.5cm, first edition, in 2 parts, 24,80p., pages 4 & 80 incorrectly numbered and corrected by hand, in later (19th cent) half tan calf and boards, black ruled borders decorations on the boards and in panels on the spine, maroon label gilt, armorial bookplate, near fine copy, rare. (cgc). Wing H.1809 (listing only the edition of 1684). BM copy is lost. - A very scarce book, particularly in the first edition. Edmund Hickeringill (1631-1708), English divine and pamphleteer, was convicted of slander in the year of this publication and was forced to relinquish his position as vicar of All-Saints, Colchester.
