The author lauds the magazine as "a new departure in children's literature." Front page illustrated with a cut from the issue for October, 1876, front inside page with the headling "St. Nicholas in England" prints reports from the British press, next-to-last page prints letters from children, and back page has more editorial comments about the magazine from the American press.
