Description: Full calf leather binding with four ridged spine. Brown endpapers with bookplate of Marmaduke John Teesdale (see below for details of possible Provenance) to all front paste downs. Language: English. Book Condition> Good: Wear to corners and edges with heavier rubbing and wear to spine ends and edges. Heavy rubbing to boards margins and spine. Titles plates missing on two volumes. All volumes are tightly bound with endpapers to one volume lightly cracked. Stained gutter to title page in one volume. Spotting and light foxing to prelims. Tanned pages. DJ Condition> Na. Size: 48mo, 12.5cm by 7.5cm. Provenance: Bookplate of Marmaduke John Teesdale. Marmaduke John Teesdale is referred to in an extract from of a note attached to a letter from Emma Darwin (Charles Darwin's wife) to JB Innes dated 1875 in the Darwin Correspondence Project. Provenance Background: The extract states that 'John Marmaduke and Maria Teesdale and their daughters Frances Maria, Julia, and Ellen Augusta lived at Down Hall, a large house in Down village After John Teesdale and one of his sons (probably the solicitor Marmaduke John Teesdale) had lunch with the Darwins at Down House on 5 March 1876 (Emma Darwin's diary (DAR 242)), Emma changed her opinion of the family, and decided not to invite them to dinner because they were Ônot nice enough' (see letter from Emma Darwin to Leonard Darwin, [6 March 1876] (DAR 23923: 159))'.
