Through meticulous research, the author traces the origins of the regiment during a period of great uncertainty and fear of invasion. The narrative follows the regiment through various conflicts, providing insights into the lives of the soldiers and the challenges they faced. The book explores the regiment's role in defending Scotland, the difficulties of recruitment, and the impact of the regiment on the communities from which its members were drawn. Richly detailed, the narrative sheds light on the evolution of military strategy and the changing nature of warfare during the turbulent late 18th and early 19th centuries. The author's thorough examination of regimental records and correspondence offers a unique perspective on the experiences of those who served in the Scottish Borderers. The book contributes to our understanding of the history of Scottish regiments and provides a valuable resource for anyone interested in military history or the social history of Scotland during this period. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

I have to acknowledge with thanks the courtesy and attention shown to me by the officials of the Public Record Office, and by many others who gave me access to books or answered letters of enquiry. I have especially to acknowledge my great obligation to Colonel Walker. Without his permission the work could not have been undertaken; and without his assistance it would have been very inferior to what it now is.
