Print on Demand. This book details the history of the formation of the canon of scripture throughout Christian history. The author begins by showing the diverse and ever-changing nature of the canon in the early centuries of the church and how it was used to make critical theological decisions by excluding specific books from the collection. The author then examines the way the New Testament canon was adopted as the orthodox canon, and contrasts and compares this to the canon of the Old Testament. This book traces the history of the Christian canon over the course of 15 centuries of church history, from the first-century church through the Middle Ages and the Reformation to the present day, and will appeal to scholars interested in the textual history of the Bible. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
