Ranging from an exploration of the English, French, and Russian revolutions and their treatment by revisionist historiography, to the debates and themes arising from attempts to downplay revolution's role in history, History and Revolution also engages with several prominent revisionist historians, including Orlando Figes, Conrad Russell and Simon Schama.

This important book shows the inability of revisionism to explain why millions are moved to act in defence of political causes, and why specific political currents emerge, and is a significant reassertion of the concept of revolution in human development.

About the Authors: Jim Wolfreys is lecturer in French political history at King's College London, UK. He is co-author (with Peter Fysh) of The Politics of Racism in France.

Mike Haynes teaches history at the University of Wolverhampton, UK. He is the author of Nikolai Bukharin and the Transition from Capitalism to Socialism; Russia: Class and Power 1917-2000; and (with Rumy Hasan) A Century of State Murder?

Enzo Traverso is a historian. He studied in Italy and France, where he received his doctorate from the EHESS of Paris. Since 2013, he is Susan and Barton Winokur Professor in the Humanities at Cornell University, NY. He has written several books, translated into some twenty languages. His writings are frequently hosted by Jacobin, Contretemps, Il manifesto, and other magazines.

Geoff Eley has taught at the University of Cambridge (1975-79) and the University of Michigan (1979-2022). His earlier books include Forging Democracy: The History of the Left in Europe, 1850-2000, The Future of Class in History: What's Left of the Social? [with Keith Nield], and Nazism as Fascism: Violence, Ideology, and the Ground of Consent in Germany, 1930-1945.
